McQueen's 'Eshu' collection celebrates Africa, tribalism and animal skin. The demonstration outside by animal rights activists and the heavy police presence (reportedly reacting to a bomb threat) didn't deter the fashionistas who gathered to witness McQueen's return to London after showing in New York last season. Models negotiated a runway of slate chunks in footwear designed by McQueen including knee-length boots made of fur and leather and funky ankle boots. Leather and fur are dominant and the designer's signature tailoring skills result in fabulous creations including tan wide-legged leather pants, jackets with hipster belts and slit sleeves. Wool is worshipped in a series of exaggerated chunky knitted pieces - a brown cropped jumper with a voluminous roll neck and a white dress constructed on a wire frame. Distressed denim shirt coats and frayed jeans with holes as well as check A-line shirts pay homage to the 80s.
