Glamour, glitz and rock'n'roll were the main vibes at Julien Macdonald's grand finale of this season's London Fashion Week. The king of spectacle put on a fashion party extraordinaire at the Millennium Dome culminating in a laser show and a live act by American rock band No Doubt (almost a bit too much for the sophisticated fashion elite who started to walk out early due to the heavy guitars). 'Modern Skins' (as the collection is appropriately called,) features skin tight outfits in sequins, gold and silver revealing lots of bare flesh and generally emphasising the sexy. Top models including Naomi Campbell, Jodie Kidd and Devon as well as special guest Leah Wood, daughter of Rolling Stone Ronnie, swung their hips to loud hip hop music (videos displayed on a giant screen behind them) clad in super minis, see-through skirts worn with bolero style fake fur jackets and glitter dresses with splits up to the hips. Cuts are simple, emphasising a narrow silhouette shifting all the impact to the choice of glamorous fabrics and vibrant colours. The Macdonald man for autumn/winter 2000 is essentially topless, wearing patent or camouflage trousers and splashes of bold body paint on chest and arms.
