Chalayan's winter collection demonstrates the technical genius and discipline that's come to be expected from the designer. Geometric shapes, futuristic folds, pretty pleats and the precise tailoring that others envy, once again feature strongly in his latest range entitled 'After words'. Forties inspired ebony suits with ivory trims, modern cocktail dresses reminiscent of the Jetsons and dolly girl skirts in pale yellow and blood red combine to make a collection which promotes design skill rather than pushing a trend. A ruffled party frock in baby blue emblazoned with a poppy is undeniably a highlight of the collection, but the garments which justify Chalayan's reputation as a visionary are his pieces of 'furniture wear'. Four amazing and innovative dresses which double as fitted chair covers and a slick coffee table that transforms into a skirt are the main attractions which will undoubtedly assure his place in the fashion history books forever.
