York College

York College's show is a diverse mix of ideas and inspirations. In her collection 'Mummification' Elaine Colley experiments with the ancient technique and discovers different ways of pleating and weaving fabric around the body to create unusual dresses - one trails a plait like a spine. Inspired by Formula One, Paul Mayhew turns up the tempo with his fast and sexy men's wear in black with bursts of bright yellow and red - skintight mesh tops and airtex trousers are worn under intricately cut reversible coats. Cranking up the volume further is Sara Robbins with her punky alternative wedding party wear - tartan boned corset dresses for her, which unravel revealingly around the body, and black hip skimming hipsters for him. Nikki Gardener shows an unusual mix of fabrics - a simple slate grey shift dress has a brocade insert in its deep v-neckline and a cream pencil skirt is worn with an irridescent green asymmetric corset top. Sexy in the City is the mood of Vicky Haley's collection - two tone pencil skirts and tight pin stripe asymmetric waistcoats are worn with tartan kipper ties and white shirts. With a softer edge but equally sexy is Becky Murphy's pink, turquoise and yellow layered and frilly chiffon collection of fluted hem skirts, bra tops and trousers.
