Northbrook College

Students from Northbrook College tried their hardest to inject some originality and fun into menswear. Most students chose the casual route and showed collections based on sportswear and street styles. Lisa Warner's synthetic and cotton drill pieces are based upon club culture and consisted of flamboyant, sporty urban wear including a dress over trousers, a condom-like ruched jacket, drawstrings and hoods. Chemical warfare gear is the obvious influence behind Chris Williams shell suits, boiler suits and ponchos, perfect for cycling in the rain. Jonathon Mitchell's collection, based on 70s skatewear, is colourful, funky and includes updated visors, boxing shorts and sweatshirts for the 21st century. Denim jeans were also reworked with clever knitted cuffs at the ankle. Menswear got colourful in sizzling tropical colours in Joseph Brown's collection of summerwear, which includes all-in-ones for the beach. Bruce Hamilton's offering was as equally summery but had a cheeky, slightly camp twist. His collection featured lots of salmon pinks, blues, yellows and greens, skirts and a top similar to a supermarket uniform. Gerard Barker's collection is a dressier affair with suits usually seen on Rodney Trotter on a night out, denim with diamante and see-through plastic suits. Metallic bronzes, greens and reds in simple shapes create a stunning collection from Gemma Bennett, although the smarter suit styles didn't work as well as the tabard top and trouser combinations. Kevin Proctor's futuristic military wear, inspired by the Russian armed forces, is effective if slightly scary. Based on flight jackets and trench coats, his 'tailored warrior' outfits are effective and original.
