Middlesex University

Middlesex University students aren't afraid to experiment with theatrical presentation, producing a lively and glitzy show with plenty of gimmicks. Selina Cambell sent models down the catwalk in little 'whore with a heart' look holey dresses, complete with post-coital ciggies, whilst Charlotte Hayworth's models looked painfully uncomfortable. Her pretty Edwardian influenced collection, modelled by delicate doll-like girls in excruciating shoes, features vintage lace and corsetry. A ballerina 'en pointe' led the models wearing Helin Kotan's slinky eveningwear accessorised with calliper-like buckles and straps. Richard Sloan's felted, dyed and beaded jackets were shown to a soundtrack of the speaking clock. Hayley Pritchard wasn't afraid to keep it simple with patchwork a-line skirts and brightly coloured vests, whilst Yootha Yaotey's collection was a striking ensemble of dramatic Shogun style pieces, complete with huge bell sleeves. Think McQueen meets Galliano in a fetish parlour and you have Jeanneth Ciro's collection in red, black and orange PVC, whilst Graham Mitchell's collection was inspired by the stationery cupboard. His models looked like strangely wrapped presents in Post-It note and highlighter pen coloured sculptural dresses, held together with sticky tape. Linda Cohen's perfectly pretty but old and dirty looking dresses - all layered net in sweet shimmering shades - looked both straight from the dressing up box and fresh and new. Flared trousers were taken to new extremes by Olivia Prempeh's over wide pants and turned over waists, like wearable origami. Another highlight was Helen Lawman's cheerful collection of brightly striped, frilled and embroidered pieces, which look like a delightful national costume.
