FAKE HAIR - continued
A popular method for attaching extensions is braiding, especially for afro hair. If you do have fake hair braided in, it's important to moisturise your scalp every day.

If you're not prepared to take the plunge then there are plenty of hair pieces that can be stuck, clipped or tied onto your existing hair. Claire's Accessories has a range of bright hair pieces including scrunches and dog clips, most are priced under £5. For more lavish locks, go to a specialist. Hairaisers Wig Boutique (105 Cleveland Street, London W1, tel: 020 7580 7666) stocks a wide selection of more sophisticated artificial and real hair pieces priced between £5 and £80. They also have a mail order service.

Just as the real stuff does, fake hair can have its bad days. If you do invest in artificial pieces then you should look after them. With extensions, it's best to ask your salon how to take care of them properly as it can depend on which type you go for. Hair pieces are really easy to look after, although you should try not to sleep or shower with them in. Most hair extensions are made with nylon so if you have to sleep in them, wear a scarf to keep them from 'fuzzing'. Most fake hair can be washed with a really mild shampoo human hair extensions are available and although they look much more natural than synthetic ones, they are very expensive.

If you do decide to splash some cash on synthetic locks, but you're not quite sure on how to wear them, drop in to your local hair salon and seek a little advice.
